SWIMMING CLASSIFICATION TEST

Here is an explanation of the swimming classifications:

Non-swimmer--

No test, or cannot swim a minimum of 50 yards unassisted.

Beginner--

Enters the water by jumping in feet first, then swims 25 yards in one direction.
Stops, turns and swims 25 yards back to the starting point.
This makes a total of 50 yards in water over the swimmer's head.

Swimmer--

Enter the water by jumping in feet first.
Swim 75 yards, unassisted in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes, Side Stroke, Breast Stroke, Front Crawl, or Trudgen.
Swim 25 yards on the back using a restful stroke.
Float for 1 minute.

Notes:

* - Motorboating and Water-skiing Merit Badges carry a five dollar ($5.00) gasoline fee. The fee is nine dollars ($9.00) if a Scout is taking both badges. Purchase gasoline card at the Trading post and give it to the Waterfront Director.
