POPCORN AND PEANUTS
At press time, the annual fall Popcorn & Peanut sale is about midway through and reports from the field are encouraging. Some of the new items such as the Cinnamon Pecans are sensational and are a great value for the price. We hope that everyone got the message about the Free Camp incentives. All a Scout needs to sell for Boy Scout Summer Camp is $900 worth of popcorn and/or peanuts (combined total sales). Since Cub Scout Summer Adventure is fewer days at a lower price, all Cubs have to sell to get camp for free is $600 in total sales of popcorn and/or peanuts. Gaming system incentives are still available for $1,500 in sales and the ONE unit, Pack, Troop, Crew or Post, who has the highest per-boy sale in the Council will receive 100% commission after the product is paid for. That's an incentive that any unit can achieve if they work hard for it.
Council Fall Sales Chair Gary Lester would like to remind everyone of the important dates for the sale:
November 6 - Orders from Units due in to the Council Service Center. Do not turn individual Scout orders in to the Service Center, they need to be turned into your unit sales chair or unit leader first.
November 20 - Popcorn pickup at the United Refining Warehouse on Fourth St.
December 18 - All Popcorn & Peanut payments from units due into the Betts Scout Service Center. Orders in after this date will be out of consideration for incentives including free camp and gaming systems.
Imagine never having to ask a parent to write another check because your unit can't afford something. One successful sale, done properly, can fund a unit's entire Scouting year. Good luck and great Scouting!

COUNCIL NEWS
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
This issue of the Pathfinder covers both November and December so, in order to do things properly, we need to take care of two orders of business:
First, a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving to all from the staff of the Chief Cornplanter Council. We all have things we can be truly grateful for in our lives. While the football games won't be very spectacular, we hope that everyone enjoys the day.
Secondly, a very Merry Christmas to everyone and a safe, healthy and prosperous New Year to you, from us. And, just so you know, the Betts Scout Service Center will be closed December 28, 29 and 30 for Inventory.
FAMILY FRIENDS OF SCOUTING
This is the time of year when we start to ask all of our units to invite us in to tell the story of the Council, where we derive income to continue to exist as an independent Council, how we spend the money we raise, and to ask all of our Scouting families to help support the operation of the Council through Family Friends of Scouting. We're not a rich Council and every dollar of support is crucial to our ability to remain in business. Family Friends of Scouting is an integral part of that funding.
Please select a date when we can come visit your unit in January or February. Our presentation is very brief. For instance, if you invite us to a banquet, we can deliver our presentation and be done before everyone is cleaned up and the awards start. The whole presentation usually doesn’t last for more than about 8 minutes, and we don't force anyone to give. When you know your date for a Family FOS presentation, please contact Ernie or Kevin at the Service Center. Thank you in advance for your continued support.

O/A CUB SCOUT RELATIONS
Hi, my name is Hunter Proctor I’m the Order of the Arrow Lodge Chief of Gyantwachia Lodge 255 . One of my goals as your Chief is to have a better Cub Scout / OA relationship so when Cub Scouts get to Boy Scouts they will want to be part of our order. One of the ways Cub Leaders & Cub Masters can help me with my goal is to go to the Betts Scout Service Center and get a form filled out so our Indian Lore Team can come to one of your Pack meetings or your Blue and Gold Dinner, and dance for you and talk about other fun things we do in our Lodge. It very important that you get this paper filled out for the date and time your requesting and turned in as soon as possible so we can make sure that we can schedule as many units as possible. The form will be available soon on our OA website at www.oa255.com. Hope to hear from all of you real soon. Yours in

Thanks, YiB, |
SPECIAL THANKS A special "Thank You" in a big way to Tom Zaffino and the Crone family for taking some of their time to help clean up the pole barn and boat yard at Camp Olmsted. It was a huge undertaking and the place is starting to look spectacular, especially the inside of the pole barn. Tom and the Crones also helped to take the docks out of the water and get them stored. Thanks also to Troop 8 and Ship 8 for helping to manage and winterize the Olmsted Fleet, and thanks also to Troop 22 for their efforts in helping to get all of our canvas put away for the winter. When everyone helps to pitch in, the load is easier for all of us. |

HAPPY BIRTHDAY 2010 is the 100th Anniversary of the BSA. One of the ways we're having fun with this and bringing the anniversary to the public's attention is to sing "Happy Birthday" to Scouting on the airwaves. We're asking all of our units to contact Mark Silvis at WNAE Radio in Warren (723-1310) to arrange for a tour of the radio station. While there, Mark has agreed to tape your Pack or Troop singing "Happy Birthday" to Scouting which will be played as public service announcements throughout February. Your boys can hear themselves on the radio! Webelos can actually cross off a Communicator requirement with a tour, so we hope all Packs will participate. Call Mark now to make arrangements. Many thanks to WNAE for their help in publicizing Scouting's 100 year achievement. |

RICKETY RAFT RACE
The first annual Chief Cornplanter Council Rickety Raft Race took place on August 29th at Chapman State Park. The event was Chaired by John Beard and the event party took place in a driving rain. A number of wild and wacky rafts were entered from various organizations throughout the community. Rafts were made from either cardboard, milk jugs or just plain scrap. All who participated said they were definitely returning for next year's event and hoped that many more organizations would be entering rafts next year as well.
All Troops and Venture Crews in our Council are hereby issued a challenge to come up with a swift, well-crafted rickety raft for next year's race, which is shaping up to be amazing. For rules and official information on the race, please contact Scout Executive Kevin Bonner and spend this winter building your raft. Many thanks to the following organizations who helped to sponsor this year's race: Betts Industries, Northwest Savings Bank, The Warren Times Observer, Whirley Drink Works, FOX 103.1 Radio, Winans Insurance Agency, and The Plaza Restaurant and Scandia Covenant Church.

GET IN THE GAME! As part of our 100th Anniversary Celebration, we're using geocaching to get at a goal that's important to every Scouter: membership recruitment and retention. Through the Get in the Game! program, Scouts and non-Scouts alike will be invited to to participate in one of our events. On top of being an exciting way to introduce new youth to Scouting, Get in the Game! activities teach valuable lessons that parents will appreciate. Lessons like leadership, problem solving, cooperation, and teamwork. This program is also a great way to find and reconnect with Scouting alumni who are active in the sport. We will be hosting two different events of the Get in the Game! program: Cache to Eagle - recognizing the amazing work done through Eagle Scout projects in our council. Race to 2010 - taking a Scouting icon nationwide on the longest Pinewood Derby track (or rather, trek) in America We will have more on this program in our next Pathfinder. If you would like to help set up our Caches, please contact John Proctor 563-3530 or Ernie Crawford at 723-6700. |

2010 EAGLE SCOUT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS ARE ONLINE
Applications for Eagle Scout scholarships for 2010 are now available at www.nesa.org. We ask that your local council Web site please link back to the following URL so your Eagle Scouts who apply for a college scholarship use the correct application, which is a mandatory requirement. Incorrect applications from prior years will not be accepted. Here is that URL: http://www.nesa.org/applications.html
This year, just over 4,500 applications were received for the 109 scholarships awarded. Of those applicants, 937 used the wrong form and thus were immediately rejected. Please consider the time and effort these applicants took to complete the application and to gather reference letters, and their anticipation as they mailed their application and awaited a response. Yet the rule is that they must use the correct application. None of these applicants ever had a chance. Let's work together to help prevent this from happening again in your council. If you have your own website; Please help your Eagle Scouts have a chance for a scholarship by linking your Web site to http://www.nesa.org/applications.html. This will give them direct access to the correct applications. Thank you.

JOIN THE OLMSTED ENGINEERS Board Member Gregg Trisket is the Chair of a new group called The Olmsted Engineers. This group, a subcommittee of our Council Properties Committee, is tasked with coordinating volunteer work crews and taking on small projects around camp to help relive the OA Lodge and the Ranger from doing all the work in camp that needs to be done. At any given time there is so much work that needs to be done in camp in terms of improvements, maintenance, etc, that no one person can likely get it all done. We already have many people who generously give their time to go up to camp and pitch in. The Olmsted Engineers are a way to have the tasks for these volunteers coordinated and prioritized. If you have some free time to give to Camp in this effort, own some cool tools, etc., then Gregg would be interested in hearing from you. To join the Olmsted Engineers, simply call the Betts Scout Service Center to get your name on the list. Gregg will contact everyone as projects arise. Depending on how many join the Olmsted Engineers, we're discussing purchasing either T-shirts or patches for the group. Even if you can't devote a lot of time to this, any help would be appreciated. |
