Ninety First Annual Scouter Recognition Dinner
Council Recognizes "Outstanding Scouters & Units"
Nearly 100 Chief Cornplanter Council Scouters were on hand at this years annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. It was held in Warren on May 1st, 2008. There are hundreds of adults throughout Warren County who volunteer their time to make sure the boys in our area receive a quality Scouting program and we appreciate everyone who shares their free time with the boys.It was a fun filled evening enjoyed by all. A great dinner, which consisted of a tossed salad, rolls, green beans, scalloped potatoes, and stuffed chicken breast. Topped off for dessert - apple pie.
Barb Mourer was the Master of Ceremonies and welcomed everyone in attendance, and then called the room to order. The opening ceremony included the "Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag" followed by the "Scout Oath" and "Scout Law". Bob Heinlein provided the invocation. The MC then turned the program over to the cooking and wait staff who served the dinner. Following dinner the MC introduced Skip Marsh, Chief Cornplanter Council's President, made some appropriate remarks, praising the work volunteers do for the Council youth. Later on in the evening the MC called upon Kevin Bonner, Scout Executive who provided a Scouter's Minute and introduced the Executive Board Members in attendance and the Council's Staff.
Many Scouters and units received special recognition and awards for their service to youth and the council.
The highlight of the evening was to be the presentation of the Silver Beaver award. Chairman of the Council's Silver Beaver Lodge Mike Brennan convened the Silver Beaver Court of Honor. This coveted award was awarded to Scott Reitz, which is the highest award a Council can bestow on an individual. Scott Reitz was not in attendance and would be presented to him at a later date.
The District Award of Merit was presented to Greg Trisket, Wendilyn Miller, and Marty Yucha, for their service to Scouts, Scouters, and Community. This is the highest award a Scouting District can bestow on an adult volunteer.
