
Eugene M. "Smitty" Smith, 73, of Stoneham, passed away after a year long illness on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at the Warren Manor.
Eugene was born September 21, 1937, in Warren, PA., the son of the late Gerald and Mildred Johnson Smith. He had been employed for over forty one years as a supervisor at Warren Concrete Products and retired from the YMCA in October 2002 after many years. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America where he served for many years as the Assistant Scout Master for Troop 33. He received many awards including the Silver Wolf in 1991, the Presidents Award in 1992 and the highest honor bestowed to a scout, the Silver Beaver Award in 2002, was a member of the Order of the Arrow and a former member of the Gyantwachia Lodge 255. He was also a member of the Kalbfus Rod and Gun Club since 1961, and a member of the Warren Archery Club. Eugene loved hunting and fly fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys M. Mack Smith, whom he married on July 19, 1958; a son, Michael Smith and his wife Jessica, Clarendon; a brother in law, Jim Stearns; an aunt, Joan Smith Baker and her husband William, Fredonia, NY; four grandsons, Michael P. Smith, Matthew P. Smith, Mason P. Smith, and step grandson, Austin Simmer; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert G. Smith and a sister, Patricia Stearns.
Friends were received at the Peterson Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, on Sunday, January 16, 2011, from 68 PM and for one hour prior to a funeral service that was held there on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 11:00, with Rev. Dan Wolboldt, chaplain, Interfaith Chapel, officiating.
Burial was in the Warren County Memorial Park.
